Ridgefield, Connecticut

Ridgefield, CT is a beautiful and quaint town situated in the foothills of the spectacular Berkshire Mountains. Located on the Western edge of Fairfield County, Connecticut, Ridgefield is home to world-class dining, award-winning schools and extraordinary cultural opportunities.

A family-oriented community, Ridgefield is a beautiful colonial town. Known for low crime rates, Ridgefield consistently ranks high on national lists as one of the safest places to live in the nation. With amenities usually found in larger cities, Ridgefield still provides residents with the best in small town living.

Ridgefield has also been named the top place to retire in Connecticut based on factors like access to recreational opportunities and doctors. Residents in Ridgefield enjoy 35 square miles of hilly terrain, including close to 5,000 acres of preserved open space and several large lakes. In addition, Ridgefield offers top-rated public schools, excellent youth sports programs, and an expansive arts and culture scene.

Considered a bedroom community for New York City, White Plains, New York, and Stamford, Connecticut, Ridgefield remains a draw for those transferring from more urban environments because of its small-town feel. In fact, with its proximity to Danbury, Stamford, Westchester County, and New York City, Ridgefield is an appealing place for professionals to call home.

While the short commute to major corporate hubs is an advantage, Ridgefield is also easily accessible to the ski resorts of Vermont. Wherever you roam, you’ll want to stay put during the fall because foliage in Connecticut rivals that of both New Hampshire and Vermont. Autumn in Connecticut is simply postcard-worthy.

All of this makes Ridgefield a much sought-after location. The distinct neighborhoods in Ridgefield provide buyers with an array of architectural choices, including Capes, historic Colonials, cottages and mansions. The Historic District, for example, can be found in the town center and is on the National Register of Historic Places. This downtown area includes many turn-of-the-century homes which have been meticulously preserved. There are also several new home communities located just outside of town.

With a strong economy, rich history, safe community, and excellent school system, it’s no surprise that Ridgefield attracts home buyers from surrounding communities as well as from the New York City area. If you are interested in buying a home in Connecticut, Ridgefield is truly a little slice of heaven on earth.

Roughly 85 percent of available properties in Ridgefield are detached single-family homes although you are certain to find magnificent estates and equestrian farms decorating the countryside. Many homes have large gardens, charming stone walls, and acreage that would fool you into thinking you were living in the country.

Southwestern Connecticut is awash with serene and rolling hills which is a welcome sight for residents and visitors alike. Ridgefield is a wealthy town, but locals take great pride in simple pleasures. This is a picture-book New England town, with its delightful Main Street and strong sense of community. But don’t let that fool you; it’s also the only one of its size to feature a professional symphony orchestra. And if classical music is not your forte, there is also The Theater Barn, The Ridgefield Guild of Artists, The Ridgefield Playhouse, and the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art. It’s no wonder Connecticut Magazine routinely names Ridgefield “Connecticut’s #1Town.”

There is no such thing as a shortage of activities year-round in Ridgefield, Connecticut. Come and enjoy it all!
